You’ve seen us talk about creativity and innovation in recent blog posts, and you know that these topics are part of our brand. Supporting creativity and innovation for our customers is our main value proposition. To continue our connection to April’s focus on Innovation, we thought we would share a little bit more on our philosophy on creative mindset.

We start by believing that everyone has the power to be creative.  We know that it may come easier for some than others but we all can learn to be more creative. In fact, Beth Miller, Executive Director of our new partner, the Creative Education Foundation, has written a great editorial entitled, “Creativity is a muscle we can develop and flex.”

Creativity is an skill that can be applied to all parts of your life. You may take your professional creativity tools and find them applicable to parenting. Or you may find that your personal discovery about your creative self can help you address a professional challenge. But more than anything else, creativity is a way of seeing and navigating the world with success – and with greater joy.

-Beth Miller, Creative Education Foundation

And yet, while we all have the creativity muscle, there are challenges to unlocking its potential. We need to overcome natural negative bias that is wired into the human brain. Although hundreds of thousands of years have passed, the human brain has not evolved well beyond the purpose of survival and survival of the species. That means our amazing brains are still constantly on the lookout for danger, assessing risk and imagining the work case scenarios.

Most of us don’t have to think too long to come up with a recent personal example of being in what felt like a “fight or flight” scenario. COVID and all the current world events have only added to our global anxiety. In the book Sticky Wisdom: How to Start a Creative Revolution at Work, the authors share several amazing actions that individuals and teams can take WITH INTENTION to ignite the creative thought process.

One of our favorites from the book is FRESHNESS. The idea behind freshness is that when you are in routines, doing the same thing, seeing the same thing day after day, your opportunities to be inspired are limited.

The authors of the book suggest switching up a new routine with a different environment. That is where Catalyst Ranch can help.  If you have been here, you know that our space is different from the norm. From the bright colors to the eclectic décor, we have designed our spaces to facilitate creativity and help you think differently. Because we have an archive of everything (furniture, art, rugs, pillows you name it!) our spaces look different every time you visit. Finally, our amazing team takes care of your every need which will free your mind up from worrying about the details and logistics so that you can focus on your ideas and your team members.

If you haven’t already read Sticky Wisdom, we highly recommend it. Check in here again soon as we continue to talk about creativity and how Catalyst Ranch can support you and your team on its innovation journey.
