Admit it you are creative! We know that creativity involves using different kinds of thinking. In order to access creativity we do these three things:  use new ideas, tap into the imagination, and make a new decision that positively affects your life and/or the lives of others.  People who do this are considered creative.

People around the world are celebrating creativity during World Creativity and Innovation Week which I first found out about through The Creative Education Foundation and Marci Segal’s Storywell Article: A Movement is Born.

In honor of World Creativity and Innovation Week  which will run through April 21st we encourage and engage people to use their creativity to make the world a better place and to make their place in the world better too. The week provides a point of time that highlights everyone’s creative potential to use new ideas, imagination and make new decisions that, when overtly claimed and developed, lead to innovation success.

Since 2002, people in businesses, homes, organizations, schools and communities (106 at last count) in over 46 countries spend the week beginning April 15th (Leonardo da Vinci’s Birthday), ending on April 21st to enliven, encourage, enjoy and express their creative spirit.

Imagine the world united through its creativity, where everyone takes a moment, a day, or the week to generate new ideas to create a brighter future wherever they are.

How do people celebrate?

They use the week, a day, an hour or a meal celebrating by doing something new that’s meaningful. Some companies celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Week in every one of their offices worldwide. We’ve heard of families eating dinner backwards and children brushing their teeth with the other hand. All this is done with a purpose: to spark their brains to access creative thoughts and actions. Do you want to celebrate? Hey why not?? What you do can be small or big. Why not cook up a dish you’ve never made before? Or bring in a speaker to your workplace for inspiration?

  • Invite your team to work together to embellish and expand a new “what if” idea you’ve been considering presenting to your boss.
  • Hold cross-discipline brainstorming sessions for suggestions to improve efficiencies and communication.
  • Challenge your employees to come up with more than 100 ideas for how to green their area and your company even more than what is currently being done.
