June is chock full of special occasions to recognize. Heck, we're already halfway through it, and we've still got the biggest dates ahead of us!

So hopefully you have energy leftover from RAGING on Flag Day (June 14) to celebrate, honor—and gather for!—these important calendar items:

FATHER'S DAY (June 19)

What's your family tradition for Father's Day? Grilling in the backyard? Flying kites/drones in the park? Monster truck rally?

Have a sparkling Sunday celebrating the father figure(s) in your life!

*Oh, and related to Father's Day: we wanted to share some photos from the Mother's Day Retreat hosted at CR last month by empowerHER, a wonderful organization lifting up girls and young women who've lost their mothers.

JUNETEENTH (June 19; Public holiday June 20)

Juneteenth is the day recognized since 1865 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, and it's only the second year it has been marked as a federal holiday.

It's an important date to honor, and there are an array of Juneteenth events across Chicago this weekend. Here are two that we've bookmarked:

  • Chicago's Semicolon Bookstore continues their #ClearTheShelves events this Juneteenth weekend, giving free books to Chicago Public School students. On Saturday, June 18, from 10a-1pm, the event (at 150 WEST) will be an extra special time for the whole family, with free books, toys and lunch for registered attendees. More info here.
  • Chicago's DuSable Museum of African American History will debut big news on June 18. Following what's sure to be exciting updates on programming, the museum will be FREE and open to the public June 18 from 11a-4p, plus a Juneteenth BBQ & Block Party on June 19! More info here.

PRIDE MONTH (All of June)

The rainbows have been flying all month, and we still look forward to celebrate joy of the LGBTQIA+ community at the signature event of Pride festivities:

Celebrate with your loved ones at the 51st annual Chicago's Pride Parade, marching through Halsted and Broadway in the Lakeview and Uptown neighborhoods. Kick off is at Noon on Sunday, June 26, on Montrose.  See the parade route map here.
