The past two years have been a time of great change, shifting challenges, adjustments, learning, and isolation. The Catalyst Ranch leadership team recently worked with executive coach and facilitator Jackie Sloane to reexamine our roles and how we relate to each other, as we look to the future and prepare to welcome more of you back to vibrant, creative, productive in-person meetings here.
Some takeaways:
- Reflection. The importance of reflection and creating “spaces” – regular time slots – in which people can bring up new topics, issues, concerns and suggestions. And, periodic exploration of what’s working and what we might want to let go of or begin doing. Innovation, new practices, new opportunities, better systems can be created as a result creating the space in which to discuss them. It’s just good to step back and reflect, ask questions that you haven’t asked in awhile or previously. Many things don’t get discussed without setting aside a time for that conversation.
- Deep listening and creativity. Kira: “It’s helpful to have an outside party speak with team members one on one, and then share what was heard from the group as a whole, observations, opportunities and challenges – so we could then explore them together. And to have her listen in on the group, and ask questions and make suggestions we might not have thought of on our own. She hears what you’re saying and what you’re not saying. She asks follow up questions to get at the root of the issue or problem, and explores helpful solutions with us.”

- Being heard and empowered. Setting aside the time for this process was really personal and empowering. People felt heard, appreciated and overall better and ready for the future!
We asked Jackie how this process relates to the resilience work she does with individuals and groups. The public Resilience Master Mind Reboot webinar series begins April 14. Her response:
- Rituals ground us, yet sometimes it’s useful to refresh and re-examine routines. What replenished you last year may not fit now. What do you need to restore yourself, and fill your soul? Sometimes we, and our work cultures expect constant task orientation. Yet, we are at our best when we interrupt the task-focus with reflection and creativity. That’s one of the ways we cultivate resilience. We literally refresh our brains and our spirit when we take time to relax, rest, exercise, be out in nature and play.
- Reflection is key to effective leadership, team cultures and resilience. We can often discover that the story or narrative we have about a situation isn’t productive. Another key resilience practice is reframing: how can you look at the situation in a way that creates opportunity, or gives you more power?
- Taking the time to listen to yourself and to others, and expand your awareness is time well-invested.
After doing this valuable reflective work, we feel more connected to one another as teammates and are ready create a path forward after two years of constant change in the world and in our industry. We’re so grateful for Jackie’s expertise in listening, sorting through our thoughts and strengthening our bonds.
Jackie Sloane’s Resilience Master Mind Reboot beginning April 14 is designed to empower participants to expand awareness and cultivate new practices to support overall well-being and resilience. Over the series, we’ll explore:
- What’s incubating within you now: what “wants” to emerge?
- Restoring/recreating your own rhythm: where do you begin?
- The role of play, mindfulness and health: what cognitive neuroscientists tell us
- Attachments and flow – how what we let go of can open up energy
